ABC Animal Jamboree is a brightly colored children's ABC book. Each letter of the alphabet is represented by an animal and a simple rhyme; the exuberant artwork adds an especially fun-loving touch. "P / Penguin / We waddle around on our icebergs, / Which makes our feet slither and slide. / And when we get close to the water, / We leap with a splash off to the side." ABC Animal Jamboree is a great choice for parents to read aloud to young children. Also highly recommended from publisher Tiger Tales are the picture books Don't Read This Book! (9781589250949, $15.95) and Hugless Douglas (9781589250987, $15.95).

August 2010, Midwest Book Review

Bouncy animal rhymes from Angelfish to Zebra. A generous and varied compendium of beastly paintings and verses, from the Crocodile ('When animals come to the river to drink, / I watch for a minute or two') to the Giraffe ('I really don't care / When my head's in the air / And my cheek's getting kissed by a cloud') to the Narwhal ('The ocean's swimming unicorn') to the Tiger ('His eyes shine like lights / In the darkest of nights'). Other animals include the Yak, Jellyfish, Boa Constrictor, Dolphin, Penguin and Vulture. The eclectic mix allows Quetzal and X-Ray Fish to fill those troublesome Q and X slots with ease. Wojtowycz's illustrations are a riot of fluorescent color; green Iguanas rest on brown tree branches against a hot-pink background (the letters Ii backgrounded in bright yellow), for example. Bright the colors may be, but the humor is frequently agreeably subtle; Zebra winks raffishly at readers as he proclaims, 'I've got stripes, / Which my ladyfriend likes / Since they make me look handsome and cool.' This is just what it should be--a little learning and a lot of breezy fun. (Picture book. 3-6).

ABC Animal Jamboree by Giles Andreae

Celebrate the alphabet with this party of animals from an angelfish to a zebra with lots of fun in between. The bold, snappy illustrations pop off the page as you imagine “the boa constrictor’s a slippery snake who squashes then swallows his prey.” Through rhythm and rhyme, kids are taught animal facts in a playful poetic form, with a laugh along the way–”He knows that it’s not very friendly or kind, But they do taste much nicer that way.” ABC Animal Jamboree is a great addition to the family of books by this talented author-illustrator team.

Recommended age: 3-7 years

November 2010,

The bright cheery illustrations of all the animals makes ABC Animal Jamboree a book that kids will want to share with their friends and family. The animals are introduced through the alphabet. Kids will learn what the animals eat, how their shaped and what they do. It's like an animal interview.
